The folk Ukrainian costume is one of the symbols of Ukrainian culture whose preservation has invaluable significance in self-knowledge, the self-creation of the national identity of the contemporary Ukrainian people, in particular the preservation of its national-cultural identity through folk clothing and embroidery. In general, the traditional costume of Ukrainians can be called the treasury of the spiritual culture of the people, which in its specific ways reflects the national character.The purpose of this work is to determine the peculiarities of the process of forming a Ukrainian national costume, to study trends in the development of ethnoculture and the influence of the national style on the formation of a student's civic identity in the process of professional training of designers, designers of clothing and footwear.The following tasks were solved: an analytical review of history and ways of development of the Ukrainian costume has been carried out; characteristic features of the national style are established; the ethno-stylistic tendencies of the Ukrainian fashion from the point of view of modern designers-designers are determined.The scientific novelty of this research is that for the first time the formation of the national-cultural identity of the student through the prism of the national style in the Ukrainian costume, through clothing and folk embroidery has been established. Thus, in the article the problems of the influence of the Ukrainian national costume on the formation of the student's civic identity in engineering-technological specialties in the process of professional training are researched. Based on the analysis of stylistic tendencies of contemporary designers, the directions of students' preparation for preservation of ethno-style in modern clothes and footwear are shown.
