Professional training of social workers to the work with migrants in Ukraine

Abstract

The content of the professional training of social workers to work with migrants in Ukraine has been considered in the article. The main goal of social workers’ education in higher educational institutions of Ukraine, which comprises training of a specialist in social work with broad access to professional activities in social institutions and to practical social work with different categories of population has been described by the author. The curricula of "bachelors" and "masters" of social work in the context of the focus on preparing for the work of specialists in the social sphere with migrants has been analyzed in the article. It has been established that the specific theoretical component of professional training of social workers to work with migrants in the universities of Ukraine is almost absent. It determines the need to pay special attention to the content of social workers’ professional training to work with migrants which should include the following components: a deep analysis of contemporary social development and the ability to provide an objective assessment of social and migration policies; to propose alternatives; a clear idea and classification of modern models, forms and methods of the practice of social work with migrants; proper pedagogical process of social workers’ preparing to work with migrants; the development of theories, concepts, models and technologies aimed at the effective implementation of the activities of a social worker working with migrants; development and implementation of programs that enhance the competence of a social worker working with migrants.
