The innovative direction of military education as the integrity of two notions such as innovative policy and innovative activity has been researched in the article. The innovative policy as the conceptual basis which includes the following: a mission, purposes, regularities, principles, main directions and ways of implementation has been substantiated. The innovative activity as the conceptual part of real actions, which is based on the principles, forms, methods, techniques has been determined. The system of general scientific and special methods of theoretical (analysis of scientific literature on an investigated problem, systematization and generalization, content-analysis, systematic approach) and empirical studies (monitoring of the activities of military specialists, use of diagnostic tools – questionnaires, summary of results) has been used to achieve the goal of the article. The components of innovative activity are subjects, objects and results. The principles of external and internal innovative military and educational policy have been defined. The innovative activity has been proposed to be considered in terms of systematic aspect as well as in technological aspect, with developing appropriate conceptual and categorical structures. The principles and functions of innovative military and educational activity, the most important directions of implementing of innovation into the sphere of military education have been substantiated. It has been presented that the driving motives, source of innovative development of military educational process are inherent contradictions of this process. The factors that facilitate searching and implementing of innovations into the higher military educational institutions have been considered.
